ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR - ANITA PERLAU

Anita's passion for singing began when she was a member of the junior choir at church. Those happy days of singing and fellowship left an impression on Anita that would provide direction for her life's work.

At every stage of her life, Anita has shared her musical gifts with her church and community. Her varied experiences include:
· Directing the children's choirs of First Alliance Church
· Leading summer music programs at Naramata Centre, Camp Cherith and Sorrento Centre
· Singing on praise and worship teams
· Performing vocal solos

Anita received her B.Ed (music) from the University of Alberta and Dip.FA(Kodaly) from the University of Calgary. Anita continues to study voice with Winston Noren.

Anita's passion for providing excellent music education to children prompted her to write "Music Literacy for Kids", a guide for teaching rhythmic and melodic skills to children. Anita travels around the province providing workshops to teachers on this subject.

Anita was an elementary music specialist for 12 years and in 1997, joined the faculty of the Conservatory of Mount Royal College where she teaches in the Early Childhood Kodaly Musicianship program.

On a personal note ...

In the Spring of 2002, I started to contemplate an ecumenical children's choir … but the challenges overwhelmed me. Now, two years later, I am committing myself to this project. Even as I write, I am becoming increasingly aware of the foundation that God had laid out before me. All of the years of church experience and education have prepared me for the Alleluia! Children's Chorus. And I am very grateful.

The Alleluia! Children's Chorus has become the merger of my passions - a love for the Lord and a deep conviction that the music of young children can influence the hearts of those who listen.
